Lifesavers Provided Opportunities
Traffic Safety Scholars Program
The Traffic Safety Scholars (TSS) Program provides awards of up to $1,000 to undergraduate and graduate students to help defray the cost of attending the nation’s largest gathering of traffic safety professionals.
Attendee Registration Support
Attendee registration support is available based on need. Those eligible for assistance must pay the conference registration rate and, upon approval, will be reimbursed $500.
Speaker Travel Expense Support
Speaker travel expense support is available to workshop presenters only. If approved, you will receive a check to apply to your registration, travel and/or hotel expenses. On average, speaker travel expense support awarded is $800.

Indian Highway Safety Program
This grant opportunity is intended for Tribal personnel who are not currently funded by the Bureau of Indian Affairs (BIA), Office of Justice Services (OJS), Indian Highway Safety Program (IHSP). The BIA is offering a limited number of grants, to federally recognized tribes, to cover registration fees and travel expense for attendance to the Lifesavers National Conference, April 7-9, 2024, in Denver, CO. If your tribe is awarded a grant the tribe will be reimbursed for actual registration fees and travel expenses, not to exceed the federal travel regulations, upon completion. Funding provided to the attendee on behalf of the tribe is managed and dispersed under all applicable grant and federal travel regulations. Proposal information can be found at grants.gov opportunity number: BIA-IHSP-2024-001. The deadline for proposals is close of business, March 1, 2024. All grant proposals received will be evaluated and selections will be made based on information provided by applicants. Proposals should contain the most accurate and complete information available. Applicants should submit their proposals as soon as possible to get the best rates for registration and lodging. Personnel actively working in these fields are eligible to attend:

Indian Highway Safety Program
The Highway Safety Act of 1966, U.S.C. Title 23, Section 402, provides U.S. Department of Transportation funding to assist Indian tribes in implementing traffic safety projects. These Projects are designed to reduce the high number of traffic crashes and their resulting fatalities, injuries and property damage within Indian communities.
Indian Highway Safety grants are financial assistance grants for federally recognized tribes. If awarded, funds are to be used to enhance the tribe’s current law enforcement in traffic safety and enforcement efforts and/or child safety seat programs (car seat distributions). All Indian Highway Safety grant opportunities are reimbursable, and performance based.

Course Description: This session is highly recommended for federally recognized Tribe’s interested in applying for Law Enforcement, Occupant Protection, and/or Highway Safety Specialist grants for FY2025 or Triennial Option (3 year, FY25-27). This session will cover federal regulations, and grant application requirements. Such as, how to fill out the grant application, create a problem ID, strategy development, required traffic statistics, along with the deadline date for grant application submission and where to send grant applications.
Registration Information: To attend this session, all attendees are required to register to attend the Lifesavers Conference before they will be allowed to attend the Indian Highway Safety Tribal Grants. Those tribes who do not have a current Indian Highway Safety Grant in place can complete the Indian Highway Safety Lifesavers Conference Grant application available in grants.gov. Attendance to this session is only open to those tribes who do not currently have a triennial grant award with the BIA/OJS/IHSP.
Grant Applications will be accepted no later than March 1, 2024. Travel expenses and registration fee will only be covered for attendees with the Tribe’s submission of a valid FY25 or Triennial Indian Highway Safety grant application.
