Announcing the 2021 Lifesavers Conference plenary session speaker line-up

 

This esteemed panel of highway safety professionals – Lorraine Martin, President and CEO of the National Safety Council (NSC), Federico Vaca M.D., a Professor of Emergency Medicine and the Vice Chair of Faculty Affairs (Child Study Center) at Yale New Haven Hospital, and Michael Brown, Chief, Alexandria Police Department, Alexandria, Virginia  – will discuss highway safety challenges related to current social issues and the COVID-19 pandemic. Panelists will also suggest strategies to reduce crashes, fatalities and traffic injuries related to these topics.

David S. Kim, Secretary of the California State Transportation Agency (CalSTA) will discuss the state’s efforts to increase roadway safety, highlight strategies to eliminate fatalities and injuries on California roadways, and provide an update on how the state is integrating inclusion and equity as metrics in its life-saving efforts.

Families for Safe Streets Co-Founder and victim advocate, Amy Cohen, will share her story of personal loss and how it has given her a platform to create a national movement to confront traffic violence by advocating for life-saving changes and providing support to those personally affected by crashes in our communities. 

Jewel Mullen, M.D., M.P.H., M.P.A., the Associate Dean for Health Equity, and Associate Professor for the Population Health and Internal Medicine Departments at Dell Medical School, University of Texas at Austin, will close the conference. Dr. Mullen also serves as Director of Health Equity at Ascension Seton Medical Center to help meet health equity goals across its system. Dr. Mullen will address current social issues regarding traffic safety highlighting equity and inclusion and provide guidance surrounding implementing these elements as traffic safety professionals.
